Association between anemia and postoperative complications in infants undergoing pyloromyotomy
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Mar 15, 2019
Kedir H, et al. - Researchers examined how untreated preoperative anemia affected postoperative complications in infants <1 year of age who underwent pyloromyotomy, a common and relatively simple surgery. They identified 2948 patients who met the inclusion criteria from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program-Pediatric database. Anemia was detected in 843 (29%) of these. Findings suggest no association of untreated preoperative anemia with postoperative compilations in relatively healthy infants undergoing pyloromyotomy. Hence they recommend not considering anemia a significant risk factor.
