Association between ambulance response time and neurologic outcome in patients with cardiac arrest
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Feb 22, 2019
Lee DW, et al. - Researchers used data from KoCARC registry to conduct this prospective observational analysis, to study the link between emergency medical services (EMS) response time and neurologic outcome of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). The final analysis included 2,309 OHCA patients aged 18 years or older with presumed cardiac etiology by emergency physicians in the emergency department. They reported response time threshold of 11.5 min and 7.5 min, respectively, for prehospital return of spontaneous circulation and for survival to discharge and favorable neurologic outcome. Findings revealed that in patients with OHCA of presumed cardiac origin, a favorable neurologic outcome could be seen in relation to a shorter EMS response time. A threshold of ≤7.5 min for EMS response time was found to be related to an improved favorable outcome.
