Association between air pollution and sleep disordered breathing in children
Pediatric Pulmonology Feb 12, 2019
Sánchez T, et al. - In this cross-sectional study of first-grade children of elementary schools throughout Chile, researchers examined if the exposure to different air pollutants is associated with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) symptoms in children. They included a total of 564 children (44.9% males) aged (median) 6 years (5-9 year). Outcomes suggest a significant association of sleep respiratory symptoms (wheezing and snoring) with air pollutants such as O3 and SO2. Furthermore, SDB-related symptoms could be related to meteorological conditions such as humidity and low temperatures.
