Association between acute methanol poisoning and subsequent mortality: A nationwide study in Taiwan
BMC Public Health Aug 11, 2018
Chung JY, et al. - In this nationwide population-based cohort study, researchers examined the link between methanol poisoning (MP) and subsequent mortality among 621 participants with MP from the Nationwide Poisoning Database and 6,210 participants without MP from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2000. They found that MP was related to increased subsequent mortality. They reported the highest mortality risk in the first 6 months after MP. Identified mortality predictors included hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, liver disease, malignancy, drug abuse, and lower monthly. For patients with MP, close follow-up for comorbidity control and socioeconomic assistance were recommended.
