Association between 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM) concentrations and left ventricular function in chronic heart failure

Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Mar 07, 2019

la Cour JL, et al. - In chronic heart failure (CHF) cases without thyroid disease, including inpatients with cardiac cachexia (nonedematous weight loss >5% over 6 months), researchers in this cross-sectional study, investigated the concentration of 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM) and its connection to left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) as well as biomarkers of heart function. They found similar levels of TSH, T4, and T3 between groups with no association with T1AM. They reported higher serum T1AM (nmol/L) concentrations in CHF, and they were highest in those with cardiac cachexia. An independent relationship between rising T1AM concentrations and reduced LVEF was noted which indicated a direct impact on the heart.
