Association and risk factors of chronic kidney disease and incident diabetes: A nationwide population-based cohort study
Diabetologia - Clinical and Experimental Diabetes and Metabolism Jan 08, 2019
Lin CY, et al. – Researchers evaluated Taiwanese study participants with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to analyze the association of CKD with incident diabetes and identify risk factor for incident diabetes in those with CKD. For this purpose, they compared 15,403 patients with CKD to 15,403 matched individuals without CKD. They found that increased age, geographical location, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and gout were significant risk factors for incident diabetes in the CKD cohort, with hypertension as the highest risk linked with the development of incident diabetes. They also noted CKD as a significant and independent predictive factor for incident diabetes, demonstrated by consistent results upon three levels of sensitivity analysis in certain geographical regions of Taiwan.
