Assessment of tumor heterogeneity: Differentiation of periampullary neoplasms based on CT whole-lesion histogram analysis
European Journal of Radiology May 17, 2019
Lu J, et al. - To assess the usefulness of whole-lesion histogram analysis from multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) to discriminate duodenal adenocarcinoma (DAC), pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) around the periampullary area, researchers conducted a retrospective study in 74 patients out of 171 patients with a suspicion of periampullary tumors who were diagnosed via MDCT and treated with surgical interventions. For the differential diagnosis of DAC, PDAC, and GIST emerging from the periampullary area, whole-lesion CT histogram analysis could be a helpful measure. The clinical aspect of histogram analysis based on MDCT has to be evaluated more.
