Shehata N, Saleh SM, Kamal AM, et al. - Researchers performed this cohort study to assess the frequency of depressive symptoms in epileptic children, with regard to the possible connection between depression and their demographic data or seizure-related variables. The study included 80 children aged 6 to 13 years who had idiopathic epilepsy and were regularly recruited by the pediatric neurology clinic at Minya University Children Hospital. Depressive symptoms were detected in 30 of the 80 children with idiopathic epilepsy who participated in this study. Depressive symptoms are common in epileptic children, and they are often difficult to recognise and treat. During the management of such children, it should be screened. Early detection and a more comprehensive package of care for depression in epileptic children will improve their quality of life.
