Assessment of the diagnostic efficacy of abdominal ultrasonography and cine magnetic resonance imaging in detecting abdominal adhesions: A double-blind research study
European Journal of Radiology Mar 06, 2020
Yasemin A, et al. - In order to find out the efficacy and safety of abdominal ultrasonography and Cine-MRI by a double-blind study in the diagnosis of intraabdominal organs and abdominal wall adhesions in individuals with previous abdominal operations, researchers performed a cohort study including 108 consecutive individuals between 2017 and 2019. They assessed the visceral slide and induced visceral slide during abdominal ultrasonography (AU) and cine-MRI. A comparison of AU and c-MRI revealed no significant difference in the detection of adhesions to the abdominal wall; nevertheless, in the detection of intraabdominal organs, adhesions, c-MRI was superior. This study showed that in individuals undergoing repeated surgery, AU and c-MRI are accurate for diagnosing adhesions and may have a place on planning elective laparoscopic or open surgery to avoid bowel injury.
