Assessment of the 11-year nationwide trend of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest cases among elderly patients in Japan (2005–2015)
Resuscitation Aug 16, 2018
Matsuyama T, et al. - The long-term nationwide trend of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) cases among elderly patients in Japan was investigated via performing a prospective, nationwide observational study in Japan. Researchers analyzed elderly patients aged ≥65 years who experienced OHCA from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2015. Findings suggest an annual increase in the number of elderly patients with OHCA. They noted a marked improvement in the patients’ neurological outcomes irrespective of age category, particularly among those with an initially shockable rhythm.
