Assessment of serum interleukin‐19 in acne vulgaris patients of different clinical severity
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Feb 09, 2021
Saleh HM, et al. - Researchers investigated acne vulgaris patients with different severities for assessing serum levels of Interleukin 19 (IL‐19) in them as well as to compare the results with healthy controls. They also assessed the role of IL‐19 in pathogenesis of acne vulgaris as well as correlated it with acne severity. Participants were 120 people in total, aged 18‐ 30 years. Participants were split into four categories, 30 in each; mild, moderate and severe acne vulgaris patients groups based on acne severity as well as apparently healthy controls group of matched age and gender without previous history of acne or active acne. Experts found serum IL‐19 levels differed significantly between acne patients and controls; were found to be higher in the former group. Also, the increase in serum IL‐19 concentrations was significantly proportional to the increased acne severity. Overall, findings showed not only an association of IL‐19 with the etiopathological inflammatory process of acne vulgaris but also its correlation with acne severity. Experts suggested the utility of IL‐19 as a prognostic inflammatory marker for acne vulgaris.
