Assessment of risk of xerostomia after whole-brain radiation therapy and association with parotid dose
JAMA Feb 20, 2019
Wang K, et al. - In this cohort study of 73 patients who received whole-brain radiation therapy, researchers evaluated whether xerostomia is a toxic effect of whole-brain radiation therapy (WBRT). According to findings, clinically significant xerostomia occurred by the end of WBRT, seemed to be persistent, and appeared to be related to parotid dose. Investigators suggested that parotid glands should be delineated to avoid minimizing these toxic effects in patients who undergo WBRT and often do not survive for salivary recovery long enough.
