Assessment of responsiveness to everyday non-noxious stimuli in pain-free migraineurs with vs without aura

Granovsky Y, et al. - Researchers tested the responsiveness to everyday non-noxious stimuli in 53 female migraineurs [30 Migraineurs with aura (MWA); 23 migraineurs without aura (MWoA)] that underwent wide series of noxious psychophysical testing at pain-free phase, and completed a sensory responsiveness questionnaire and pain-related psychological questionnaires. Compared to migraineurs without aura, migraineurs with aura, demonstrated enhanced: pain amplification; monthly attack frequency; and over-responsiveness to everyday sensations. Furthermore, a high incidence of abnormal responsiveness to everyday sensation, specifically sensory over-responsiveness characterized migraine that was also found correlated with pain.
