Assessment of rapid response teams at top-performing hospitals for in-hospital cardiac arrest
JAMA Oct 17, 2019
Dukes K, Bunch JL, Chan PS, et al. - In this qualitative study of data obtained from interviews with 158 key stakeholders at nine Get With The Guidelines–Resuscitation hospitals, experts assessed variations in design and implementation of rapid response teams (RRTs) at top-performing and non–top-performing sites for survival of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA), which is recognized to be related to hospital performance on IHCA incidence. Of the 158 individuals, 72 nurses, 27 physicians, 27 clinical staff, and 32 administrators were there. The findings proposed that top-performing hospitals highlighted RRTs with dedicating staff without battling clinical duties, that work together along with bedside nurses, and that could be stimulated without fear of retaliation. Moreover, at hospitals with superior IHCA outcomes, the findings gave novel insights into RRTs.
