JAMA Mar 27, 2019
Dolan P, et al. - In this national cross-sectional survey, researchers evaluated attitudes toward weight loss surgery in the US general population. Despite weight loss surgery's safety and effectiveness, only 0.4% of patients who qualify on the basis of National Institutes of Health criteria have a surgical procedure for weight loss. According to findings, one hypothesized reason is that negative public attitudes towards weight loss surgery are preventing patients from seeing it as an option.
