Assessment of oral health status of children with epilepsy: A retrospective cohort study
International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry Oct 12, 2018
Morgan HI, et al. - In a cohort of Egyptian children with epilepsy, experts evaluated their experience with caries, gingival health, and oro-facial traumatic injuries. They conducted this retrospective cohort study from September 2016 to April 2017 using data from medical records in Children Hospital at Ain Shams University. A dental examination was performed for 100 epileptic children and 80 healthy subjects who matched in age, gender, and socio-economic status. Findings suggested a high burden of gingival issues in epileptic children and tended to develop caries, particularly in primary dentition. Nonetheless, oral traumatic injuries are not common if seizures are well controlled.
