Assessment of endovascular treatment for acute basilar artery occlusion via a nationwide prospective registry
JAMA Feb 26, 2020
The relationship between EVT and clinical outcomes of individuals with acute BAO was investigated. This nonrandomized cohort study, the endovascular treatment (EVT) for Acute Between January 2014 and May 2019, researchers designed a basilar Artery Occlusion Study (BASILAR) study which was a nationwide prospective registry of consecutive individuals presenting with an acute, symptomatic, radiologically confirmed BAO to 47 comprehensive stroke centers across 15 provinces in China. Researchers recruited a total of 829 individuals after assessment of 1,254 individuals (of whom 612 were men [73.8%]; median [interquartile] age, 65 [57-74] years) were recruited into the study. The results of this study indicated that EVT administered within 24 hours of estimated occlusion time is correlated with better functional outcomes and reduced mortality among patients with acute BAO.
