Assessment of atopic dermatitis as a risk factor for chronic spontaneous urticaria in a pediatric population
Allergy and Asthma Proceedings Dec 07, 2018
Kitsioulis NA, et al. - In a pediatric population, researchers assessed the link between a history of atopic dermatitis (AD) in early childhood and the risk of subsequent occurrence of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). For new cases of patients who visited the outpatient allergy unit of a tertiary pediatric hospital in Athens, Greece, between June 2014 and August 2016, retrospective data were analyzed that included CSU and AD diagnoses and the link with gender and season of birth as well as a personal and family history of allergy-related diseases (asthma, allergic rhinitis, AD, and food and drug allergies). According to findings, AD may represent an important risk factor to the subsequent occurrence of CSU.
