Assessing the role and optimal duration of hormonal treatment in association with salvage radiation therapy after radical prostatectomy: Results from a multi-institutional study
European Urology Feb 28, 2019
Fossati N, et al. - In 1,264 participants who got salvage radiation therapy (RT) to the prostatic and seminal vesicle bed following radical prostatectomy (RP), researchers assessed the influence of duration of hormonal therapy (HT) in cases treated with postprostatectomy radiation therapy (RT) by clinical and pathologic features. Clinical recurrence (CR) was observed in 182 cases at a median follow-up of 93 months after surgery. HT duration was inversely correlated with the risk of CR (hazard ratio 0.95) on multivariable analysis. Researchers also found a low and constant risk of CR irrespective of HT duration among patients with no risk factors, while for patients with two or more adverse features, a significant effect was seen with long-term HT (up to 36 months).
