Assessing the relative impact of lupus nephritis on mortality in a population-based systemic lupus erythematosus cohort
Lupus Jun 15, 2019
Moe SER, et al. - Patients with and without lupus nephritis (LN) in a population-based systemic lupus erythematous (SLE) cohort were compared regarding their mortality rates. Researchers followed-up all SLE patients resident in the city of Oslo during 1999–2008 for a median period of 14 (0–15) years. LN developed in 98 of 325 SLE patients (30%). During the study period, 56 deaths were reported, corresponding to an overall standardized mortality ratios in the SLE cohort of 2.1. SLE patients developing LN showed increased morbidity and mortality, however, those who did not develop LN had good overall prognoses regarding survival.
