Assessing the agreement of 5 ideal body weight calculations for selecting medication dosages for children with obesity
JAMA Pediatrics Jun 10, 2019
Moylan A, et al. - In this investigation, researchers sought to evaluate the agreement of five ideal body weight (IBW) calculations for selecting medication dosages for children with obesity. The prevalence of obesity in childhood is growing worldwide. There is little consensus on how weight-based dosage regimens in kids with obesity should be modified by prescribing clinicians. The World Health Organization advises the use of IBW to calculate all drug dosages, while other forms recommend the use of IBW and IBW-derived measures, including adapted body weight and lean body mass, based on the lipid solubility of the drug.
