Krikke M, et al. - The intent behind this study, was to probe the bone development of preterm infants during the early postnatal period. A small to moderate decline was unveiled in the metacarpal speed of sound (mcSOS) and metarcarpal bone transmission time (mcBTT) of the study cohort, during the early postnatal period. The clinical relevance of this decline and the formulation of interventions to arrest it warranted additional exploration.
