Aspirin use during pregnancy and the risk of bleeding complications: A Swedish population-based cohort study
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Aug 19, 2020
Hastie R, Tong S, Wikström AK, et al. - Using the Swedish Pregnancy Register, researchers conducted a register-based cohort study examining if aspirin use during pregnancy is linked with an increased risk of bleeding complications. Among 313,624 women giving birth between January 2013 and July 2017, 4,088 (1.3%) women were reported to have used aspirin during pregnancy. Observations revealed increased postpartum bleeding and postpartum hematoma in correlation with using aspirin during pregnancy. In addition, it may be linked with neonatal intracranial hemorrhage. Findings emphasize the necessity for weighing these risks against the potential benefits when offering aspirin during pregnancy.
