Aspirin use during pregnancy and the risk of bleeding complications: A Swedish population-based cohort study.
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jul 22, 2020
Hastie R, Tong S, Wikström AK, et al. - Researchers here examined if risk of bleeding complications during pregnancy increases in correlation with aspirin use. They used the Swedish Pregnancy Register retrieving 313,624 women giving birth between January 2013 – July 2017. In 4,088 (1.3%) of women, aspirin use was reported during pregnancy. Findings suggest correlation of using aspirin during pregnancy with increased postpartum bleeding and postpartum hematoma. Further, it may be linked with neonatal intracranial hemorrhage. They emphasize weighing these risks against the potential benefits when offering aspirin during pregnancy .
