Aseptic revision total hip arthroplasty in the elderly: Quantifying the risks for patients over 80 years old

Bovonratwet P, et al. - Herein, the experts performed a comparison between the rate of perioperative complications after aseptic revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients aged ≥80 years and in those aged < 80 years. Using a large validated national database, they also determined the risk factors responsible for the incidence of serious adverse events in those aged ≥80 years. When compared to younger patients, aseptic revision THA was connected to greater risks in patients aged ≥80 years, even after controlling for patient and procedural characteristics. This was found to be vital for counseling and underscored the requirement for medical optimization in such vulnerable patients.
