Ascorbic acid supplementation improves postprandial glycaemic control and blood pressure in people with type 2 diabetes: Findings of a randomized cross-over trial
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Nov 08, 2018
Mason SA, et al. – In this randomized cross-over study, researchers assessed the influence of ascorbic acid (AA) supplementation on postprandial glucose responses under free living conditions in people with type 2 diabetes. In addition, they investigated its effect on blood pressure. Participants included 31 people with type 2 diabetes who received 4 months of supplementation with oral AA (2 x 500 mg/day) or placebo. The investigators noted improved postprandial and 24-hour glycemia, as well as decreased blood pressure levels following 4 months of AA supplementation vs placebo. Findings from this study provided support for the use of AA as an adjunct therapy to improve glycemic and blood pressure control in this study population.
