Ascorbic acid supplementation improves postprandial glycaemic control and blood pressure in individuals with type 2 diabetes: Findings of a randomized cross-over trial
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Feb 14, 2019
Mason SA, et al. – In this randomized cross-over study, researchers investigated how ascorbic acid (AA) supplementation influences postprandial glucose responses under free-living conditions in 31 individuals with type 2 diabetes with 4 months’ supplementation with oral AA (2 × 500 mg/d) or placebo. In addition, they assessed the impact of AA supplementation on blood pressure. According to findings, 4 months of AA supplementation improved postprandial and 24-hour glycemia, and decreased blood pressure levels vs placebo in this study population. Overall, findings supported the use of AA as an adjunct therapy to improve glycemic and blood pressure control in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
