Ascites relative enhancement during hepatobiliary phase after Gd-BOPTA administration: A new promising tool for characterising abdominal free fluid of unknown origin

European Radiology May 17, 2019

Bonatti M, et al. - Degree of ascites enhancement during the hepatobiliary phase following gadobenate dimeglumine (Gd-BOPTA) administration with ascites etiology was determined by authors in a study which included 74 consecutive ascitic patients who experienced Gd-BOPTA-enhanced liver MRI including hepatobiliary phase (HBP) images. In patients suffering from ascites secondary to peritoneal carcinomatosis, normalized relative enhancement in HBP following Gd-BOPTA administration was found to be relatively low, as compared to the patients with non-malignant ascites.
