Arthroscopic bankart repair vs conservative management for first-time traumatic anterior shoulder instability: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Arthroscopy Jul 15, 2020
Hurley ET, Manjunath AK, Bloom DA, et al. - Researchers conducted a meta-analysis of the current evidence in the literature to compare arthroscopic Bankart repair vs conservative management for first-time anterior shoulder dislocation. Researchers carried out to search MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases based on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses) guidelines. The arthroscopic Bankart repair was compared with conservative management as treatment for first-time anterior shoulder dislocation. They further compared recurrence, further treatment, and return to play, with all statistical analysis applying Review Manager, version 5.3. P < .05 was recognized statistically significant. The outcomes indicated that in comparison with conservative management, arthroscopic Bankart repair resulted in a 7-fold lower recurrence rate and a higher rate of return to play. Therefore, arthroscopic Bankart repair may be advisable to conduct routinely in individuals with first-time dislocation who participate in sports.
