Are postoperative hip precautions necessary after primary total hip arthroplasty using a posterior approach? preliminary results of a prospective randomized trial
Journal of Arthroplasty Feb 20, 2020
Tetreault M, Akram F, Li J, et al. - In order to find out whether postoperative hip precautions necessary after primary total hip arthroplasty using a posterior approach, a prospective randomized study was conducted to estimate the impact of hip precautions on the incidence of early dislocation following posterior approach primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study included a total of 587 individuals (594 hips) between 1/2016 and 4/2019. There were no significant demographic or surgical differences between groups. Preliminary investigation implies that removal of hip precautions after the posterior approach primary THA was not correlated with early dislocation and facilitated the return to daily functions. Investigation to appropriate power is assured.
