Are Oxford hip score and Western Ontario and and McMaster universities osteoarthritis index useful predictors of clinical meaningful improvement and satisfaction after total hip arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty May 18, 2020
Yeo MGH, Goh GS, Chen JY, et al. - This research was sought to estimate the minimal clinically important difference thresholds for Oxford Hip Score (OHS), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and the Short Form-36 (SF-36) mental component summary and physical component summary scores and distinguish the threshold values of these patient-reported outcome measure that could be applied to prognosticate patient satisfaction and expectation fulfilment. Researchers obtained prospectively collected registry data including a total of 1,334 primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients who returned for 2-year follow-up from 1998 to 2016. The data exhibit that OHS and WOMAC scores can be applied to ascertain clinical meaningful improvement but are limited in their ability to prognosticate patient satisfaction after THA.
