Are nonpharmacologic pain interventions effective at reducing pain in adult patients visiting the Emergency Department? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Sakamoto JT, et al. - Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess if nonpharmacologic interventions in the Emergency Department (ED) are effective in reducing pain. For summary analysis, 56 studies met inclusion criteria. The most studied interventions included acupuncture and physical therapy. The type of pain most studied was musculoskeletal pain. Findings often support the efficacy of nonpharmacologic interventions in reducing pain in the ED.
