Appropriateness and complications of peripheral venous catheters placed in an Emergency Department

Guihard B, et al. - Researchers in their Emergency Department (ED) conducted a study assessing the rate of peripheral venous catheters (PVCs) placement, their use, their immediate or potential usefulness, and their complications. Findings revealed inefficacy of half of the PVCs inserted in the ED. Moreover, it seemed that half the PVCs causing complications were avoidable.
