Application of quantitative contrast-enhanced ultrasound for evaluation and guiding biopsy of peripheral pulmonary lesions: A preliminary study
Clinical Radiology Nov 17, 2019
Wang Y, et al. - Thirty-three individuals with histopathologically confirmed peripheral pulmonary lesions (22 malignant, 11 benign) were recruited in this retrospective study in order to assess the functionality of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in distinguishing malignant from benign peripheral pulmonary lesions, and to assess the feasibility, accuracy, and utility of CEUS-guided biopsy for peripheral pulmonary lesions. The study findings imply that CEUS could recognize necrotic areas within lesions, and hence, play an important role in imaging-guided biopsy. Also, the present pilot study suggests that CEUS could aid in recognizing acute pneumonia lesions from other types of pulmonary lesions. Moreover, for the diagnosis of lung lesions, CEUS may be a beneficial extra procedure.
