Apolipoprotein E gene polymorphisms and intraventricular haemorrhage in infants born preterm: A large prospective multicentre cohort study

Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology Aug 19, 2018

Dzietko M, et al. - In this prospective study, researchers examined whether APOE was correlated with the prevalence of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and was likely to have a particular genotype in infants born preterm. For this investigation, 5,075 infants born preterm with genotype APOE3 were compared to 965 (APOE2) and 1,912 (APOE4) individuals, to examine the relationship between APOE genotype and grade III and IV IVH. Relevant risk factors for IVH in infants born preterm were APOE2 and APOE4 genotypes, which improves our understanding of the genetic contributions to IVH. The highest risk of IVH was found in infants with two polymorphisms.
