Apolipoprotein B is a risk factor for end-stage renal disease
Clinical Kidney Journal Feb 18, 2020
Kwon S, Kim DK, Oh KH, et al. - Researchers investigated if there exists a link between apolipoprotein B (ApoB) concentration and the risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in this study with 9,403 participants. They examined serum ApoB, ApoA1, conventional lipid parameters and lipid subfractions among participants. They computed the hazard ratio for the risk of ESRD by utilizing tertiles of ApoB concentration. A follow-up of 10 years revealed the development of ESRD in 110 patients (1.2%). Findings revealed a higher risk of ESRD in relation to high ApoB concentration, despite adjustment for other lipid as well as clinical parameters. Accordingly, ESRD prediction may be aided by ApoB monitoring.
