Apical transverse motion is associated with interventricular mechanical delay and decreased left ventricular function in children with dilated cardiomyopathy
Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography Apr 05, 2018
Hui W, et al. - The correlation between apical transverse motion (ATM) and ventricular function in children with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) was determined. ATM was analyzed visually and by speckle-tracking longitudinal displacement of the interventricular septal and left ventricular (LV) lateral walls in opposite directions using echocardiography. It was observed that 45% of patients had ATM (interventricular septum displacing toward the lateral wall and lateral wall displacing toward the mitral annulus during systole). Reverse ATM (r-ATM; lateral wall displaced toward the apex and interventricular septum displaced toward the septal annulus during systole) was illustrated by 18% of individuals. ATM was related to LV dysfunction, mechanical inefficiency, and interventricular mechanical delay in pediatric DCM.
