Aortic stenosis is an independent predictor for outcome in patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest
Resuscitation Mar 01, 2019
Sulzgruber P, et al. - Researchers assessed the prognostic value of aortic stenosis (AS) for outcome following in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) in this study that included a cohort of 11,641 patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome. Of these patients, 151 received a standardized echocardiographic diagnostic immediately prior to an IHCA. In all, 51 individuals displayed AS (mild: n=19 [12.5%]; moderate: n=11 [7.2%]; severe: n=21 [13.8%]). Findings suggested a strong and independent predictive value of AS for mortality and poor outcome after IHCA. Hence, for risk stratification and decision-making, the presence of AS seems to be an easily available predictive tool.
