Eser HY, et al. - Via performing a meta-analysis and meta-regression study, researchers investigated the comorbidity and covariates of anxiety disorders (AD) and pediatric bipolar disorder (PBD). Data from 37 articles were included in this analysis. The lifetime prevalence of any comorbidity correlated with AD was 44.7%; panic disorder (PD) was 12.7%, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) was 27.4%, social phobia was 20.1%, separation anxiety disorder (SAD) was 26.1 % and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) was 16.7%. With PBD, AD are highly comorbid. The risk for AD increases in correlation to early-onset PBD. Higher GAD and SAD comorbidity were reported in childhood-onset studies, while in adolescent-onset studies, higher PD, OCD, and social phobia were reported. They identified different effects of age of onset, gender, comorbidity of ADHD, substance use, oppositional defiant disorder, and conduct disorder on each anxiety disorders’ comorbidity with PBD.
