Anxiety disorders comorbidity in pediatric bipolar disorder: A meta‐analysis and meta‐regression study
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Apr 06, 2020
Eser HY, Taşkıran AS, Ertınmaz B, et al. - Investigators sought to perform a meta‐analysis and meta‐regression study about the comorbidity and covariates of anxiety disorders (AD) and pediatric bipolar disorder (PBD). They systematically explored relevant articles published until May 2019, as defined in PRISMA guidelines. For the study, 37 articles represented data. Childhood‐onset studies recorded higher generalized anxiety disorder and separation anxiety disorder comorbidity, whereas adolescent‐onset studies documented higher panic disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and social phobia. The age of onset, gender, ADHD comorbidity, substance use, oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder differently affected the comorbidity of each anxiety disorders with PBD. PBD is highly comorbid with anxiety disorders. Early onset PBD increases AD risk. The biopsychosocial aspects of this comorbidity and its course need further evaluation.
