Anxiety associates with pain and disability but not increased measures of inflammation for adolescent patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Arthritis Care & Research Jun 20, 2019
Hanns L, et al. - Researchers examined the influence of anxiety and depression on clinical measures of disease for adolescent JIA patients. In addition, they investigated how anxiety and depression influence peripheral pro-inflammatory cytokine levels in adolescent JIA patients and in healthy adolescent controls. Questionnaires on anxiety and depressive symptoms were completed by 136 patients with JIA and 88 healthy controls aged 13-18. As per the analysis, adolescent JIA patients and healthy adolescents experienced anxiety and depressive symptoms of equivalent levels. Anxiety and depressive symptoms were noted to be associated with pain, disability, and physician visual analogue scale but not with inflammation in adolescent JIA patients.
