Anxiety and depressive symptoms are related to core symptoms, general health outcome, and medical comorbidities in eating disorders
European Eating Disorders Review Apr 30, 2019
Martín J, et al. - In this cross-sectional study of 520 eating disorders (ED) patients, potential factors that have a significant effect on anxiety and depression in these patients were investigated using the beta-binomial regression (BBR) approach. Anorexia nervosa was reported in 255 (49.4%) patients, bulimia nervosa in 173 (33.3%) patients, and 92 (17.7%) patients had ED not otherwise specified. ED symptoms, health status, ED subtype, medical comorbitidy, and educational level were noted influencing depressive and anxiety symptoms. In addition, researchers noted symptomatology of anxiety and living alone were inversely associated, another interesting finding of this work. Finally, the findings suggest a possible utility of BBR in interpreting patient-reported outcome as odds.
