Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Oct 26, 2020
Erdoğan SS, et al. - Psychiatric findings in children and adolescent groups with alopecia areata (AA) and vitiligo were determined and the levels of anxiety and depression in their parents were investigated. In this study, researchers included 31 patients with AA and 29 patients with vitiligo (aged seven to 17 years) and their parents along with age‐ and gender‐matched 30 controls and their parents. Data were obtained from the patients and controls using the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scales‐Child version (RCADS‑C), and from their parents using the parent version (RCADS‐P). In addition, the parents completed the Beck Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory and the cases were assessed for the stressful event history. Per analysis, pediatric patients with vitiligo had a higher stressful event history than those with AA. Patients with AA had higher prevalence of anxiety symptoms than those with vitiligo.
