Anxiety and depression in patients with nasal septal deviation
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Mar 06, 2020
Ma Q, et al. - Utilizing a self-report questionnaire, symptoms of depression and anxiety were examined between nasal septal deviation (NSD) patients (n = 76) and controls (n = 79). In patients who visited the general hospital, a case-control study design was used to assess the psychological burden of NSD. To assess the prevalence and severity of anxiety and depression between the NSD and control group, the Zung Self-rating Anxiety/Depression Scale was used. The authors discovered that depression and anxiety, as well as the co-morbidity of depression with anxiety, were more prevalent in the NSD group compared with control. Psychological distress should, therefore, be taken into account for patients with NSD during the diagnostic and therapeutic process.
