Antiviral activity of interferon-stimulated gene 20, as a putative repressor binding to hepatitis B virus enhancer II and core promoter
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Feb 14, 2020
Park YK, Lee SY, Lee AR, et al. - Given that interferon-stimulated gene 20 (ISG20) expression is related to the interferon-α treatment response in patients with chronic hepatitis B, however, the molecular mechanism of ISG20-mediated anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV) activity is not clear, researchers studied the molecular target of ISG20-mediated HBV suppression in the HBV life cycle and analyzed the role of ISG20 in the natural course of chronic infection with HBV. According to results, ISG20 was primarily induced by interferon-β, and replication of HBV was dramatically inhibited. Furthermore, ISG20 reduced HBV gene expression and transcription. The outcomes indicate that by acting as a putative repressor binding on the HBV EnhII/Cp region, ISG20 exerts anti-HBV activity.
