Mahmoodpoor A, et al. - Herein, the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in critically ill patients was studied in relation to supplemental selenium administration. Findings revealed that although selenium supplementation increased the antioxidant activity but had no influence on the incidence of VAP in critically ill patients. Patients in the treatment and the control groups did not differ in terms of the risk of developing VAP or death within 30 days of ICU admission.
