Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies and organ-specific manifestations in eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Aug 10, 2020
Chang HC, Chou PC, Lai CY, et al. - This systematic review and meta-analysis was undertaken to determine the link of the ANCA (antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody) status with organ-specific manifestations in eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), also known as Churg–Strauss syndrome. Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were explored to identify studies published prior to March 16, 2020. The meta-analysis involved 24 cross-sectional studies comprising 2,527 patients with EGPA, including 921 ANCA-positive and 1,606 ANCA-negative patients. As per significant findings of pooled analyses, higher risks of peripheral neuropathy, renal involvement, and cutaneous purpura and lower risks of pulmonary infiltrates and cardiac involvement were reported in patients with EGPA with positive ANCA status vs those with negative ANCA status. Overall, this work affords more evidence that different features of disease may be seen in patients with EGPA depending on their ANCA status.
