Goriacko P, et al. - Researchers compared antibiotic utilization among hospitalized children who tested positive for different respiratory viruses at admission. Compared with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), providers were more likely to use antibiotics in the non-RSV-infected patients. a concern about bacterial superinfection was likely represented by these trends and could reflect lack of familiarity with these pathogens. The variables like variables affected the prolonged use of antibiotics. Experts noted a more likeliness of patients positive for influenza and human metapneumovirus to receive ≥ 2 days of treatment compared with patients positive for RSV.
