Antibiotic use among hospitalized adult patients in a setting with limited laboratory infrastructure in freetown Sierra Leone, 2017–2018
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Dec 19, 2019
Lakoh S, Adekanmbic O, Jiba DF, et al. - In this cross-sectional study of consecutive 920 adults (≥ 18 years), experts intended to evaluate antibiotic usage in grown-up individual relative to limited laboratory services at the main tertiary hospital in Sierra Leone. High rates of antibiotic use were noted, which was not mostly based on laboratory evidence. In many developing countries, drivers of poor prescribing were lack of oversight and microbiological support, which required financial resources and served a sicker population. Thus, to facilitate advancements in individual results and check the extent of antibiotic immunity, bigger investments are required to build antimicrobial stewardship programs and give clinicians with diagnostic support.
