Antibiotic-loaded bone cement is associated with a lower risk of revision following primary cemented total knee arthroplasty: An analysis of 731,214 cases using National Joint Registry data
The Bone & Joint Journal Nov 13, 2019
Jameson SS, Asaad A, Diament M, et al. - Data from the National Joint Registry (NJR) of England and Wales were collected for all primary cemented TKAs between March 2003 and July 2016 in order to assess the use of antibiotic-loaded bone cement (ALBC) in a large population of TKA people (n = 731,214). People, implant, and surgical variables were examined. In this registry-based study of an entire nation of primary cemented knee arthroplasties, ALBC was related to a notably lower risk of revision following adjusting for a range of variables. Moreover, using ALBC does not seem to raise midterm implant failure rates.
